Camping: On Looking Back

It’s been almost two weeks since we emerged from “the wild,” and I think we’re all still under the forest’s spell. Miner and I are aching to go back, especially after getting the photos back from the developers.
I think of Josie and how her family fell in love with Disneyland. I don’t think it was Disneyland at all that she fell in love with, but the feeling of the family collective, contrasted by the wide open unfamiliar. It might’ve been a theme park, or Barbados, or Italy…or camping.
The photos give an even more intimate insight into the trip, because in the images, I see the things that were of special significance to the kids, things I might not necessarily have come to know otherwise. It would be worth documenting each trip this way, keeping with the nature journals, and giving each child a new disposable camera and photo book each time. I have a feeling these moments are going to be some of the most precious.
